PURPOSE:To form a magnified image by using duplicatedly at least one color signal in response to a set magnification from three signals (R, G, B) constituting one picture element obtained by a photoelectric converter and combining the duplicated color signal and an adjacent color signal to constitute one picture element. CONSTITUTION:In magnifying an image by a read control section 141, the three color signals (R, G, B) constituting one picture element obtained by the photoelectric converter 25 are used duplicatedly for one - three in response to the set magnification to constitute adjacent picture elements. That is, in forming N1 kind of continuous output signals from N1 kind (in this case, 3 kinds, R, G, B) constituting one picture element as one picture element, the N1 kind of the continuous output signals including the N2 kind (at least one out of the R, G, B) among the N1 kind of input signals are used for the next one picture element for the output.
