PURPOSE:A carbon stick having larger flexural strength, compression strength and diameter than a conventional one is inexpensively obtained through a simple process without complicated and troublesome operations such as cutting and impregnation. CONSTITUTION:The carbon stick mentioned above has more than 300MPa of flexural strength, more than 250MPa of compression strength and 1.0-5.0mm diameter in the thickness direction in the cross section. In order to obtain such a carbon stick, (1) carbon fine particles are added to a binder which is mainly composed of monomers or precondensate of furan resin and a chlorine-containing vinyl resin and to be carbonized by roasting, and mixed uniformly; 92) the resultant composition is thoroughly kneaded under high shear force and extruded into a stick and (3) the formed product is preoxidized and carbonized in an inert atmosphere such as N2 or Ar gas. |
