<p>PURPOSE:To obtain 2- or 3-aminomethylpiperidine useful as an intermediate for pharmaceuticals, in high yield and purity, economically on an industrial scale, by the catalytic hydrogenation of 2- or 3-aminomethylpyridine in the presence of a rhodium-based hydrogenation catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A rhodium-based hydrogenation catalyst is supported in an amount of 5-20% on a conventional carrier for liquid-phase reduction, e.g. diatomaceous earth, activated carbon, alumina, etc. The objective 2- or 3- aminomethylpiperidine can be produced in a yield of as high as 95-97% by the catalytic hydrogenation of 2- or 3-aminomethylpyridine in the presence of 0.1-5wt% above catalyst preferably at 80-130 deg.C in a solvent such as water, methanol, ethanol, cyclohexane, dioxane, or in the absence of solvent. Compared with conventional method, the present process has short reaction time and high selectivity. The objective compound can be produced in high purity with simple distillation because there remains no unreacted raw material having close boiling point to that of the objective product.</p> |
