PURPOSE:To facilitate conversion processing of images in various states by deriving an execution procedure of image conversion processing at every stage from a procedure deriving knowledge storage means, selecting a unit knowledge information at every state and a selecting means, converting the image according to the execution procedure and displaying said image at every stage. CONSTITUTION:According to an image processing request inputted through a data I/O part 6 and the image information state of a subject image at every stage, a procedure deriving part 1 retrieves the processing stated in a processing request memory part out of n-number of rule groups stored in a procedure deriving means storage part 2, and selects an appropriate rule. Simultaneously said part 1 collates n-piece of knowledge showing the image state stored in an image state memory part 3 with the obtained rule, and selects the rule conforming the collation. The processing name of the selected rule, which is stored in an action memory part 13, is used, and an algorithm matched to the processing name is retrieved. On the basis of the algorithm an image processing executing part 4 processes the image and the displays the result on an image display part 5.
