PURPOSE:To enhance the efficiency of spectral sensitization by introducing a cyclodextrin residue into a dye. CONSTITUTION:A dye having cyclodextrin or a deriv. thereof as a substituent is used. The desired carbon atom in the part where the cyclodextrin is combined with the dye component is a carbon atom on which a primary hydroxyl group is present, and the structure of the dye is represented by formula I (where L is a combining group, X is O, NR or S, and n is an integer of >=5). A dye compound represented by formula I-1 may be used. The efficiency of spectral sensitization is enhanced and an optical response material having improved photosensitivity can be obtd.
