PURPOSE:To facilitate a search for a necessary special character by making the special character into a block and controlling such that the block is displayed at first the next time when one character in said block is selected. CONSTITUTION:In order to search the candidate of the special character a mark key 12 is inputted through a key input part 1. A CPU 2 loads the contents of a top block pointer 51 to a display block pointer 52, and permits a display part 11 to display one block from a mark dictionary 3. If a desired character is not present, a conversion/next candidate key 13 is inputted to display the next block. When the desired character is present in said block, it is inputted through a selection key 14. A character code in the mark dictionary 3 at this time is stored in a document memory 7, and the block at the stored address is displayed next time.
