The device comprises a handpiece 1 which hooks removably onto a joining piece 10 so as to be able to rotate freely with respect to it, this joining piece containing the micromotor for driving the instrument. The handpiece is fitted with means for illuminating the place of treatment, and the supply of electricity between the two parts is performed by contact pistons 12, 13 with a spring projecting on the front face of the joining piece 10 and which are pressed, in the hooked-up position, against annular electric strips 5, 7 provided at the rear end of the handpiece and insulated from each other by a ring 6.
