PURPOSE:To obtain the titled composition of low resistivity at ambient temperatures, free from both arc and smoke generation on voltage application, with only a small change in the resistance even after heating such as thermal cycle, by incorporating both metal hydrate and silicon carbide in a composition comprising organic polymer and conductive filler. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition can be obtained by incorporating (A) a composition having PTC characteristics comprising an organic polymer (e.g., polyethylene, nylon-11) and conductive filler with (B) both metal hydrate (e.g., aluminum hydroxide, magnesium hydroxide, having water of crystallization) and silicon carbide. In effect, the final composition comprises (1) 10-80wt% of the organic polymer, (2) 5-60wt% of the filler, (3) 5-50wt% of the metal hydrate, and (4) 5-50wt% of the silicon carbide. |
