PURPOSE:To make it possible to prevent the backflow of char to the second- stage gasifying furnace and provide smooth and continuous operation, by introducing char separated from a gas produced in the second-stage gasifying furnace into the first-stage gasifying furnace by a transfer means with a gas. CONSTITUTION:A solid fuel, e.g. coal, is fed to a fluidized bed 7 of the second- stage gasifying furnace 6, and reacted with a gasifying agent 18 containing air, oxygen and/or steam and produced gas in the first-stage gasifying furnace 1 fed from an intermediate cyclone 5 at 700-1,200 deg.C and converted into a produced gas and char. The residual particles of the fluidized bed 7 in the second-stage gasifying furnace 6 and fine particles (char) are passed through an overflow pipe 12 and then introduced into a transfer chamber 24 of a fluidizing transfer means 23. The char is then introduced into the first-stage gasifying furnace 1.
