PURPOSE:To avoid an engine stall, by setting a control target engine speed higher when a torque converter drag reduction control means performs drag reducing action as compared with that when said means performs no drag reducing action. CONSTITUTION:In operation of a vehicle, when a control unit 60 decides that a manual shift is placed in a forward running range further with a throttle valve 108 in an idle opening and a car speed in a predetermined valve 108 in an idle opening and a car speed in a predetermined value or less about zero, a solenoid 37 for a forward clutch control valve 36 is electrified. In this way, a predetermined pressure of oil lower than the line pressure of oil, determined by a relief valve 46, is supplied to an oil chamber 356b in a forward clutch 28, and the method, placing said clutch 28 to be engaged in a condition that a slip is generated, causes a torque converter to perform a drag reduction control. And here the method, setting a control target engine speed higher as compared with that when said drag reduction control is not performed, feedback controls an idle speed control valve 110. |
