PURPOSE:To surely avoid an engine stall, by setting a control target engine speed higher as compared with that when a drag reduction control is not performed, when an engine speed increases after the drag reduction control of a torque converter is started. CONSTITUTION:In operation of a vehicle, when a control unit 60 decides that a manual shift is placed in a forward running range further with a throttle valve 108 in an idle opening and a car speed in a predetermined value or less near zero, a solenoid 37 in a control valve 36 is energized. In this way, a pressure of oil lower than the like pressure of oil, determined by a relief valve 46, is supplied to an oil chamber 35b in a forward clutch 28, and the method, placing said clutch 28 to be engaged in a condition that a slip is generated, causes a torque converter to perform a drag reduction control. And when an engine speed increases after said reduction control is started, the method, setting a control target engine speed higher as compared with that when said reduction control is not performed, feedback controls an idle speed control valve 110. |
