PURPOSE:To obtain a head capable of forming various kinds of electric fields with simple structure by providing plural electric field applying electrodes, a device recording with a rotating electric field, a couple of polarized plane analyzers orthogonal to each other and a couple of photodiodes detecting the analyzed light. CONSTITUTION:A synthesized electric field E comprising electric fields E1n, E2n formed by two couples of electrodes 301, 302 and 303, 304 made nearly orthogonal to each other at write causes polarization onto the recording film for recording. In matching the timing to a time tn and irradiating a laser beam, the write is attained by using an electric field E toward the direction of theta. The analyzer 404 passes through a light having the polarized plane in the direc tion 405 and the analyzer 403 passes through a light having the polarized plane perpendicularly to this paper. The analyzed planes are arranged to be made orthogonal in this way. The returned light is divided into two by a beam splitter 110 at read, they pass respectively through the analyzers 111a, 111b arranged to have the analyzed planes in orthogonal direction and received by photodiodes 106a, 106b.
