PURPOSE:The title dispersion that is obtained by dispersion a composition containing a specific self-emulsible aromatic epoxy resin and an initial polycondensate of a specific phenolic resin in an aqueous medium containing an amine, thus being suitable for use as a coating for metal, because it shows good curing properties and gives coating films of good physical properties. CONSTITUTION:The objective dispersion is obtained by dispersing a resin composition which is prepared by adding (A) an initial polycondensate of a phenolic resin containing more than 40wt% of a compound of formula I (R is H, 1-12C alkyl; X is H, methyl; a, b are 1,2 where a+b is 3 or 4) such as a compound of formula II to (B) a resin mixture containing excessive amount of carboxyl groups obtained from (i) an acrylic resin containing 12-70wt% of monobasic carboxylic acid component and (ii) an aromatic epoxy rein, in an aqueous medium containing ammonia or amine in such an amount as the pH of the medium becomes 4-11. The amount of component B is preferably 2-40wt% based on the total weight of the resins.
