PURPOSE:The addition reaction of a carboxylic acid to an olefin is carried out using a specific zeolite as a catalyst to give the title compound in high selectivity, high conversion and high yield. CONSTITUTION:When esterification is carried out by addition reaction of a carboxylic acid such as acetic acid, trifluoroacetic acid, acrylic acid or succinic acid to an olefin, preferably isobutene or cyclohexene, a zeolite which has an external acid points: the whole acid points ratio of more than 0.07, preferably 0.3-0.7 is used as a catalyst. The zeolites satisfying the conditions are, e.g., ZSM type zeolite, pentasil type zeolite, AZ-1 and borosilicate. |
