PURPOSE:To provide excellent lubricity in addition to resistance to heat and wear by mixing proper amounts of powdery MoS2 with Al alloy powder containing each specific amount of Mn, Fe, Zr, Cu and Mg and subjecting the resulting powder mixture to blending, preforming and then extruding. CONSTITUTION:The powdery MoS2 (2-6vol%) is mixed with the powder of heat resisting Al alloy consisting of, by weight, 6-8.5% Mn, 0.5-2% Fe, 0.03-0.5% Zr, 2-5% Cu and/or 1.5-4% Mg, and the balance Al with impurities. The resulting powder mixture is blended, which is preformed and extruded. On plating the powdery MoS2 with Cu, the coagulation of MoS2 can be prevented and simultaneously compactibility and extrudability can be improved. This alloy is sufficiently applicable to engine parts etc., requiring excellent lubricity besides high strength and wear resistance.
