Insulin derivatives which have a charge which is positive as compared with the charge of human insulin at neutral pH can be used for preparing solutions having delayed insulin effect. In the previously unknown insulin derivatives, a basic amino acid is substituted in the B27 position and/or a neutral amino acid is inserted in the A4, A17, A13 and/or B21 positions. Furthermore, the C- terminal carboxyl group in the B chain is blocked with an amido or ester group.
