The invention relates to a device for carrying out the method of pyrometric measurement of the true temperature of, for example, steel strip in a furnace, consisting of a measurement chamber which is arranged between the measurement material and pyrometer and has in a supplementary surface which can be heated and/or cooled a measurement opening, on the axis of which the optical pyrometer is arranged. The object of the invention is to design such a measurement chamber so that in terms of its constructional configuration it meets the thermal and mechanical loads in practical use equally as well as the methodological requirements such as, e.g., rapid reaction to controlled temperature change in the supplementary surface. To achieve this aim, the measurement chamber is designed as a metal cylinder, on the end of which facing the measurement material there is provided a heating coil which encloses the measurement opening, is flowed through by electric current, is arranged in a plane parallel to the measurement material and forms the supplementary surface. <IMAGE>
