An apparatus for separating off particulate impurities from liquids, in particular a precoat filter which has a vessel in which are mounted vertically arranged filter inserts on a manifold, which is flow-connected to the interior of the filter elements on the one side and to the outlet on the other side. The emptying of the interior of the filter elements into the discharge pipe is forced to proceed by the action of gravity.
