PURPOSE:To keep a uniform pressing down quantity of punches at all times by detecting changes in the quantity of the punches caused by operating conditions of a press and controlling a projecting height of the punches using changes in the base end position of the punches for punch working which eliminates removal of a material to be worked. CONSTITUTION:The punches 1 and 2 supported by a stripper holder 3 are connected with a punch holder 4 by energizing by springs 5 and 6. A projecting height of the punches 1 and 2 is adjusted by the position of a slide plate 7 at the respective base ends 1a and 2a of the punches 1 and 2. The projecting height at the start and finish of press operation and the height during a continuous operation are larger than usual values due to the mechanism itself and thermal expansion of the mechanism, respectively. The changes in press operation are detected and the position of the slide plate 7 is varied by a solenoid 9 to hold the base ends 1a and 2a by recessions 7a and 7b of the slide plate 7 and to change the projecting height of the punches 1 and 2. Therefore, the punches 1 and 2 keep a uniform pressing down quantity at all times and perform good punch workings.
