A film-embossing printing method is described, in which a film negative is produced from an original and, setting out from said negative, a block is produced by the photo-engraving method, and a film applied to a substrate is pressed with the block against an object to be printed. In order to allow reproduction of halftones, provision is made for the original to be covered with an optical screen before the film negative is produced. <IMAGE>
