The scanning device exhibits on a switch carrier (3) a switch arrangement (8, 9, 10, 11, 13) exhibiting switch position in five axes, the actuating elements (14, 16, 18) of which can be placed against the contour of a model to be scanned. The device is moved along in a raster under control by a control device by a machine tool, on the machining head of which it is mounted. At each raster point, the device is aligned by the controlled machining head in such a manner that all switches are in a defined normal position. The data of the successive positions of the machining head then correspond to the shape of the model. <IMAGE>
