In order to reduce the number of components and to obtain shorter ignition leads to the individual spark plugs, the rotor of the ignition distributor (12) has a design connection to its drive gear (7) mounted on the camshaft (1), in that a distributor electrode (11) is arranged, electrically insulated, in the drive gear (7), whilst input and output electrodes (22; 17, 18) are arranged in housing areas (15, 14) of the distributor (12) in a position such that at certain angular positions of the distributor rotor (7) two spark gaps (23, 24) are connected in series to individual spark plugs for the transmission of ignition energy (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
