The invention relates to an installation for the additional ventilation of cooling beds for small-section and medium-sized rolling mills. The aim of the invention is to achieve, for the smallest energy consumption, the maximum possible cooling intensity on cooling beds by means of additional ventilation and also to guarantee good maintainability of the installation. It is the object of the invention to intensify the cooling of the rolling stock in the departure region of the cooling bed, the fresh air passing in a predetermined direction to the ventilators and, both in this case and during the blowing-out from the diffusers, the air stream flowing around the rolling stock to the maximum degree. The features according to the invention consist of a materially dense partition wall which is arranged in the cooling-bed pit in the longitudinal direction of the cooling bed, underneath and at the start of the transfer means, and divides the cooling-bed pit into a supply-air space and an exhaust-air space. The partition wall has doors and openings for the supply air. Axial forces are provided in the supply-air space in front of the partition wall. In addition, the supply-air space is sealed off from the bay wall by a continuous side wall.
