GAS SHIELDED CHAMBER FOR WELDING RAIL

PURPOSE:To stabilize the quality of a weld zone and to simplify a welding operation by disposing a pair of heel blocks on the outside of a chamber separately on the right and left, constructing these heel blocks in such a manner that the blocks can be respectively discretely driven and gathering feed and discharge ports for a shielding gas and heel block cooling water at one point. CONSTITUTION:Driving devices 23 for a pair of the heel blocks 4 are respectively separately disposed on the outside of the chamber casing 2a and therefore the sticking of the spatter, etc. during welding to driving shafts 23a is prevented and the movement of the heel blocks 4 is not hindered. Shielding gas supply ports 9 as well as cooling water supply ports 10 and discharge ports 11 provided to the blocks 4 are connected by means of hoses to a manihold head 20. Since the ejection rate of the shielding gas can be controlled according to the contact of the blocks 4 with the weld zone of the rail, the defective welding owing to the excessive or deficient gas is decreased. The head 20 is provided with a gas supply port 20a as well as a cooling water feed port 20b and discharge port 20c by which the connection ports for the gas and water are concentrated to three ports and the connecting operation is simplified.
