PURPOSE:To make possible the formation of a weld zone having a relatively uniform thickness along the welding direction by irradiating a laser beam satisfying the specific conditions on the butt part of a can body forming body and welding said part. CONSTITUTION:The can body forming body 1 is run axially in a guide device 5 and the laser beam 7 is irradiated on butt end faces 2, 2. The laser beam 7 is so oscillated as to satisfy condition equations (1), (2) when t1, t2, D are respectively designated as the oscillation time, stop time and diameter of the laser beam and V is designated as a welding speed mm/sec. The heat of the part melted by the irradiation is transmitted to the succeeding adjacent part to melt the part of the latter when such beam 7 is irradiated. The butt part is thus melted approximately uniformly in the longitudinal direction. The formation of the weld zone having a relatively uniform thickness in the welding direction is thus made possible. |
