The base band signal recovered in the receiver is temporarily stored and this stored signal is examined for its length and/or density over a given length and correlated with a reference signal having the same length and the form of the normally distorted receiving signal. Synchronization of the receiver does not take place until the correlation value obtained by the correlation of the two signals has reached its maximum and rises no further. The starting pulse is thereby centered in the correlation window, with the result that the correlation value reaches its maximum at the precise moment when the starting pulse lies in the centre of the reference signal, so that synchronization is to a large extent immune to transmission distortions and interferences. |
