PURPOSE:To make it possible to reduce the number of the replacement times of an ink ribbon, by providing a means for repeating the taking-up and unwinding of the ink ribbon within an one line range until the number of lines calculated by multiplying the number of the stages of the printing region of the ink ribbon by the number of the usable times to the same ink surface are printed and delivering an unused ink surface after the completion of the printing of the number of lines. CONSTITUTION:The printing region of the uppermost stage of an ink ribbon 10 is contacted with recording paper under pressure by the protrusion of the printing head 22a of the uppermost stage when carriage 20 is moved to the right to perform printing. When the carriage 20 moves to the left, the ink part having been used previously and taken up by a take-up core 13 is again used. At the time of the forward movement of the next line, the part used at the time of the printing of the previous line is again used. When printing operation was finished at the time of the final forward movement of the ink ribbon in the number of usable times, the printing head 22b of a second stage is protruded and a printing region 10b is used to repeat the same operation. When all of printing regions of all stages were used by the number of usable times, a drive means 26 takes up the used ink part at a stroke by the take-up core 13 to deliver a new ink surface. |
