PURPOSE:To obtain a muddy water adjustor for high-temp. stratum which can maintain a function of muddy water even at high temps. and causes no occurrence of problems related to detrimental substances, by incorporating an yttrium complex compd. in a specific muddy water adjustor base. CONSTITUTION:A muddy water adjustor prepd. by incorporating a metallic complex compd. of yttrium with at least one member selected from among surface active subtances obtd. by water solubilization treatment of asphalt, pitch or coal, lignin sulfonates and humates. The adjusted muddy water to which the muddy water adjustor has been added can maintain excellent disper sion, because it causes no significant increase in viscosity and no significant change in yield and amount of dehydration even after experiencing thermal history of 200 deg.C for 3hr. Since the muddy water adjustor also exhibits excellent effects, e.g., on suppression of swelling of clays and decrease in amount of dehydration, it is particularly suitable for use in excavation at high temp. A further advantage of the muddy water adjustor is that it causes no pollution problem when disposed, because it is free of hexavalent chromium compds.
