PURPOSE:To provide a resin compsn. for powder coating, which has excellent weather resistance, adhesion, etc., consisting mainly of a modified resin obtd. by modifying a saponified ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer with a carboxyl group-contg. compd. and converting part of the carboxyl groups into an alkali metal salt. CONSTITUTION:An ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer is saponified in the presence of an alkali metal compd. catalyst (e.g. sodium hydroxide). An unsaturated compd. contg. a carboxyl group (e.g. acrylic acid or maleic acid) is added to the reaction mixture contg. said saponified product and the mixture is reacted with heating to form a carboxyl group-modified resin. The reaction mixture is heat-treated in a nitrogen gas atmosphere to convert 20-90% of the carboxyl groups of the modified resin into an alkali metal salt. The resulting resin is used as a main component, an optionally, pigment, filler, etc., are added thereto to obtain the desired resin compsn. for powder coating.
