PURPOSE:To form a waveguide type optical demultiplexer by embedding a prism consisting of a material having large refractive index distribution into a material having small refractive index distribution. CONSTITUTION:This multiplexer has the prism part 23 consisting of a GaAs substrate 21, a Ga0.7Al0.3As epitaxial film 22, and a GaAs epitaxial film. An incident light signal 24 of three different wavelengths (lambda=0.8, 1.1, 1.3mum) is separated to signal light 25-27. More specifically, the refractive index dispersion of the optical waveguide and the prism part 23 can be freely selected according to the compsn. thereof and therefore the separating power of the light signal of the different wavelengths is increased. |
