PURPOSE:To permit the lapping work for a spherical body with the degree of roundness in high precision by driving at least one of the upper and lower lapping plates opposed, by a driving mechanism so that the spherical body can be revolved irregularly in all directions. CONSTITUTION:When a lower lapping plate 11 is turned clockwise by operating a motor 7, and an upper lapping plate 34 is turned counterclockwise by operating a motor 18, a spherical body 35 interposed between the both lapping plates 11 and 34 is revolved at the speed corresponding to the relative speed between these lapping plates 11 and 34 in the direction of the periphery of the lapping plates. Further, since the upper lapping plate 34 revolves in eccentricity within the max. dimension range, the spherical body 35 is revolved in the direction of the diameter of the lapping plates 11 and 34 crossing at right angle to the peripheral direction, and the direction of revolution of the spherical body 35 is not fixed, and the spherical body is revolved in all directions, and the whole surface can be lapping-worked uniformly, and the degree of roundness with high precision can be obtained. |
