摘要 PURPOSE:To perform the polymerization of ethylene smoothly even at a relatively low pressure in an improved polymerization activity of a catalyst, by producing an ethylene polymer by using a catalyst comprising a specified transition metal compound component and an organometalliccompound component. CONSTITUTION:In producing an ethylene polymer by polymerizing ethylene or copolymerizing ethylene with another alpha-olefin by using a catalyst mainly consisting of a transition metal compound component (A) and an organometallic compound component, a reaction product between a chromium alkoxide (i) and a compound (ii) selected from among a magnesium carboxylate, an organophosphorus-compound of magnesium, a manganese carboxylate and an organophosphorus-containing compound of manganese is used as said transition metal compound component and a halogen-containing alkylaluminum compound is used as said organometallic compound component. As said organophosphorus- containing compound of magnesium or manganese, those obtained by reacting an organo-manganese compound with a hydrogen-containing phosphorus compound are desirable.
