PURPOSE:To provide a water based paint having excellent room temperature drying characteristic and suitable for use as a cathode electrodeposition paint, by dispersing a maleinized diene polymer or a derivative of a maleinized oil and a reaction product of an epoxy resin with an unsaturated carboxylate ester in an aq. medium. CONSTITUTION:100 pts. wt. reaction product (A) obtd. by reacting 100g of a condugated diene polymer and/or a (semi)drying oil with 100-300 m mol of an acid anhydride of formula I (wherein R1 is H, halogen, methyl), reacting the reaction product with 10-300 m mol of a compd. of formula II (wherein R2, R3 are each H, methyl; R4 is ethylene, propylene chain) and then reacting the reaction product with water, a primary monohydric alcohol or a dialkylamine, and 10-200 pts. wt. reaction product (B) of an epoxy resin with a carboxylic acid of formula III (wherein R6, R7 are each H, methyl) or reaction product (B) of a phenolic resin with an ester of formula IV (wherein R5 is H, methyl) are dispersed in an aq. medium to obtain a water based paint compsn.
