A polymerizable dental composition containing methacrylate monomer(s) and free radical polymerization catalyst for said monomer(s), the monomer(s) having been treated with a sulfonated cation-exchange resin in free acid form prior to contact thereof with said catalyst or during contact thereof with said catalyst but prior to free radical liberation by said catalyst, to improve the stability of the monomer(s) catalyst system against polymerization, particularly under ambient conditions.
