PURPOSE:To obtain the titled highly homogeneous medium by making the vertically oriented magnetic field Hor far larger than each of the coercive force Hc of single magnetic domain particles, the demagnetizing field Hd(=4piMs) of the coating liq. and the local magnetic field caused by the interaction between the single magnetic domain particles. CONSTITUTION:Rice grain-shaped metallic iron having high output, 0.1mum major axis size to reduce the medium noises, 1/3 axial ratio and 900Oe Hc is used as the magnetic particles for a coated film. The material having a larger axial is advantageously used for increasing the degree of orientation and narrowing the anisotropic dispersion of the magnetic particles. The magnetic field distributions Hor and Had1-Hadn can be easily formed as intended by changing the clearance between counter magnetic poles, the width of a magnet in the proceeding direction of a medium, the clearance with the adjacent magnet, the width of a magnet in the proceeding direction of a medium, the interval with the adjacent magnet and the kind of a magnet (alnico, Ba ferrite, Sm cobalt, etc.) on a trial-and error basis.
