PURPOSE:To prevent overlapping with an already displayed part and to facilitate recognition by displaying or printing a corrected part between lines of a having been printed parts at the time of inputting, editing and correcting a character. CONSTITUTION:When a central control unit 1 controlling a documentation device detects an input from a keyboard 6, it decides an input key. When it is a cursor moving key, the unit 1 executes a cursor position control, and when it is a character key, the unit 1 executes a character display and printing processing. Afterward, the unit 1 updates and cursor position and the printing position. Then such a decision is made whether or not a new printing position lies within the old printing range. If the new one lies in the old range, whether or not the position of the printer character printing part is present above or below the current line is checked. If said position is just on the line position, the printer character printing part is shifted between lines, and the subsequent input is printed between lines. Thus the new printing will not overlap with the having been printed part when it is again recognized at the time of the additional input, edition and correction, and the recognition can be made easily.
