PURPOSE:To strengthen the durability of a floating-type magnetic disk and that of a recording medium by forming a protective coat by leaving slightly an end part at the recording medium contact surface of a slider and etching the end part of the contact surface. CONSTITUTION:The protective coat 3 is bonded on a gas lubricating surface in the state where the end part of the gaseous lubricating oil of the floating-type magnetic head 1 is slightly exposed. The protective coat is formed with a high corrosion resisting coat, Au, for instance, and protects the gas lubricating surface when the end part is etched with a acid-based solvent. After the end part of the gas lubricating surface is slightly etched, the protective coat 2 is removed. In such a way, the durability of the floating-type magnetic head and that of the recording medium can be strengthened.
