PURPOSE:To obtain a low-priced floppy disk drive device thin in width and excellent in space efficiency by permitting one spindle motor to drive two disks, making a frame common and disposing a carriage moving stepping motor symmetrically against a carriage. CONSTITUTION:The group of read and write heads 117 and 118 and that of read and write heads 119 and 120 are disposed on the carriages 121 and 126, respectively, so as to face disks 102 and 129. Still belts 123 and 232 are jointed to the stepping motors 122 and 233 through pulleys 125 and 228, and arranged symmetrically. The heads 117, 118, 119 and 120 are shifted in the diameter direction of the disks 102 and 129 due to the rotation of the motors 122 and 233, and read and write information. On the other hand, the disks 102 and 129 are driven by one spindle motor 100 fixed on the common frame 124. Thus the device is thinned and the space efficiency is improved.
