PURPOSE:To reduce the transmission data quantity by expressing a graphic character having a very high appearance frequency in 1 byte code, transmitting it and adding the 1st byte of the undefined area in the information exchange Kanji (Chinese character) code system to the head f the 1 byte code as an expanded code. CONSTITUTION:An execution program of a CPU (central processing unit) 1 is set to a program memory 2 and a work area is set to a main storage section 3. A conversion table memory 4 constitutes a high frequency code table representing 256 high frequency characters such as a part of special characters, numerals and romaji in 1-byte code. A data processing unit is equipped with a communication control section 5, an auxiliary storage device 6, an operation input section 7 and a picture display device 8. When the graphic character registered in the high frequency code table appears in the transferred document information, the data processing unit converts the graphic character into 1-byte code according to the high frequency code table, adds the expanded code representing its consecutive number to the head so as to reduce the information quantity of transfer information as a whole.
