PURPOSE:To enhance the reliability of a switch for detecting the variation of direction of braking action to control the shut-off of a brake holding solenoid valve when a vehicle stops on an ascending slope, by disposing this switch in a recess in an anchor member. CONSTITUTION:In an LT-type drum brake, a pair of brake shoes 4a, 4b are opened at one end thereof around their the other end, as a pivot center, which abuts against both end sections 6a, 6b of a slidable anchor 6, overcoming an upper return spring 10a, when a wheel cylinder 2 is extended by means of hydraulic fluid which is fed by depressing a brake pedal, and therefore, are made in press-contact with a drum 5 rotating together with a wheel 1 to effect braking force. Further, when the direction of a friction force exerted upon the shoe 4b is reversed caused by stopping a vehicle running on an ascending slop, a switch 9 is turned on by means of an actuating element 9 to energize a brake holding solenoid valve. In this arrangement, the switch 8 is fitted in a recess 15 formed in an anchor body 7 with the actuating element 9 therefore being made in contact with the end section 6b.
