PURPOSE:To miniaturize a whole device by detecting the state of insertion of a floppy disk using an index detector and a notch detector. CONSTITUTION:An index detector 13 detects rotational information of a floppy disk 1 by detecting an index hole 5 pierced in the disk 1 using an index IND signal. A notch detector 14 detects a notch 9 formed on the edge of a jacket 2 by a write read possible signal. In this case, the signal state of the signal IND when the write possible signal WP changes from off state to on state is stored in an index signal memory circuit, and when the signal WP is on state and the signal IND stored in the index memory circuit is on state outputs a discharge state signal of the disk 1. Thus, the state of insertion of the disk 1 can be detected, and accordingly, the device can be miniaturized.
