PURPOSE:To enable the correct measurement of a distance either when the posture of a camera is positioned horizontally or vertically, by providing a projecting element projecting slit-shaped fluxes of light extending in two different directions respectively and a light-receiving sensor having a plurality of pixels. CONSTITUTION:A projecting element 6 projecting slender slit-shaped fluxes of light extending in the vertical and horizontal directions of a camera body 1 is disposed diagonally above a camera lens 2. This projecting element 6 projects to an object the slit-shaped fluxes of light in the vertical and horizontal directions separately or simultaneously. On the other hand, an area sensor 7 having a plurality of pixels divided in the horizontal and vertical directions is disposed at a position diagonally below the camera lens 2 and off by a base length L therefrom. This base length L is across the optical axis of the lens 2 and inclined at an angle of 45 deg.. By this device, a distance can be measured correctly either when the posture of a camera is positioned horizontally or vertically. |
