6-Methylene 3-oxo delta 4-steroids in which rings A and B of the steroid nucleus are of formula (I), are made by treatment of a 3-enol ether of a 6-hydroxymethyl steroid= in which the rings A and B are of formula (II), R being O-alkyl, O-hydroxyalkyl, O-cycloalkyl or O-alkylaryl, with a reactive acid able to regenerate the 3-oxo delta 4-steroid.
