PURPOSE:To obtain the titled composition useful as a cosmetic base capable of imparting desired viscosity and excellent applicability of cosmetic, etc., by compounding a water-insoluble selfcrosslinkale sodium polyacrylate, a specific polyhydric alcohol and water as essential components. CONSTITUTION:The gel composition contains (A) a water-insoluble selfcrosslinkable sodium polyacrylate of formula (m and an are integer; m/n is 3+ or -0.5), (B) a polyhydric alcohol having >=3 OH groups in a molecule and (C) water, as essential components. The weight ratios of the components A-C fall in the range encircled with the lines connecting the following 4 points in the triangular diagram; a [A=40.0, B=59.0, C=1.0]; b [A=0.01, B=98.99, C=1.0]; c [A=0.01, B=1.0, C=98.99]; and d[A=20.0, B=1.0, C=79.0]. The composition can impart a cosmetic with high viscosity without deteriorating the feeling of the cosmetic to the skin. |
