NEW MATERIAL:An organic sulfur compound shown by the formula I [R<1> is alkoxy or hydroxy; R<2> is H or alkyl; R<3> is substituted alkyl (replaced with carbamoyl, cyano, carboxy, alkoxycarbonyl, amino or alkoxycarbonylamino) or R<3> and R<2> are bonded to form group shown by the formula II (R<5> and R<6> are cyano or alkoxycarbonyl); R<4> is H or R<4> and R<3> are bonded to form group shown by th formula III (R<7> is alkyl or alkoxycarbonyl); m and n are 0 or 1] and its salt. EXAMPLE:4-Carboxymethyl-6-methoxy-4-methyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-1-benzothiop yran. USE:An analgesic having low narcotic properties, especially low dependence on narcotic. PREPARATION:For example, a compound shown by the formula IV is reacted with ethyl cyanoacetate and acetic acid and, optionally, converted into a salt to give a compound shown by the formula V, one of compounds shown by the formula I.
