PURPOSE:To easily judge the direction of a formed image by providing a light reflecting means along the surface of the insertion pipe part of an endoscope inserted into a body to be observed and embedding many light guide fibers for lighting and photodetection in the periphery of the through hole of a mouthpiece that a patient takes in his or her mouth. CONSTITUTION:The insertion pipe part 2 of the endoscope 1 is made of black resin, a reflecting line with a high reflection factor which is made of white resin is provided along the surface of the insertion pipe part 2 by printing, etc., and the mouthpiece 4 that the patient takes in his or her mouth is fitted in the intermediate part of the reflecting line 3. Many lighting light guide fibers 7 and photodetecting light guide fibers 8 are embedded closely and alternately in the periphery of the insertion hole of the pipe part 2 of the mouthpiece 2, light is sent to the fibers 7, and light reflected by the reflecting line 3 is received by the fibers 8, whose outputs are sent to a photodetecting element 17. Then, the output of the element 17 is displayed on a monitor television 22 through a display controller 26 to check whether the insertion pipe part 3 faces a specific diseased part correctly or not.
