摘要 PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for temperature control facilities and to simplify a device by detecting the temperature of a ferroelectric liquid crystal element with large temperature dependency by a sensor and varying the pulse width of a driving signal according to the detected temperature and driving the element. CONSTITUTION:The ferroelectric liquid crystal element as a display element has the large dependency of its threshold value upon temperature. For the purpose, the temperature of a display 14 is detected by temperature sensors Th1-Th8 and stored in a CPU 10. The CPU 10 performs temperature-to-DELTAT conversion on the basis of the temperature of liquid crystal and driving frequency characteristics to set the pulse width of the driving signal at time DELTAT. When data is written, writing is carried out by using said driving signal with DELTAT time width. Consequently, temperature variation is compensated with the pulse width, so the need for temperature control facilities such as a heater is eliminated and the device is simplified.
