PURPOSE:To improve charging efficiency, by specifically setting ratio of the opening period to the closing period in a rotary valve so as to increase an intake pressure, in the case of an engine equipped with the rotary valve between supercharging auxiliary intake ports and a surge tank. CONSTITUTION:An engine respectively connects a supercharge passage 6 with auxiliary intake ports 3, opened to each cylinder 2, and a natural air intake passage 7 with main intake ports 4, and the supercharge passage 6 successively provides from the upstream side a supercharger 11 like an air pump, intercooler 12, surge tank 13 and a rotary valve 18 to be interposed. The rotary valve 18 has a cylindrical body 19, rotated by an output shaft 22 of the engine E through a timing belt 23, while the cylindrical body 19 has an opening 19a selectively connected with branch passages 6a communicating with each auxiliary intake port 3. Here the engine, in which the rotary valve 18 sets the substantial ratio of its opening period to closing period to 2:1, realizes the desired end.
