PURPOSE:To obtain an unsharp signal by a simple optical constitution without using a complicated electric circuit by using the plural pieces of solid-state image pickup element, and obtaining directly the unsharp signal by one piece or more of solid-state image pickup elements. CONSTITUTION:The image read surface 10a of an original moving (sub-scanning) in the direction Y is illuminated by an illuminating light source, a line image appearing in the slit of a slit plate 11 is inputted to CCD image line sensors 14, 15 through an image-information lens 12 and a half mirror 13 and the line image of the original 10 is read by the main scan of the direction X. The light receiving surface of a sensor 14 is set to the focal position of an image- formation lens and focused to the line image of the original, and the light receiving surface of a sensor 15 is set so as to be shifted from the focal position of the image-formation lens and defocused. In this way, from the sensor 14, the sharp signal of the line image being as it is is obtained, and from the sensor 15, an unsharp signal being out-of-focus is obtained.
