PURPOSE:To enable the constitution of a general logic circuit and logic arithmetic operation as an optical signal is left as it is by simple constitution by a method wherein a plurality of lasers share the same active region, a negative gain region is inserted to one part of the active region, the gain of the negative gain region is changed and the state of oscillation is switched among a plurality of the lasers. CONSTITUTION:Active layers for two striped type laser diodes 1, 2 cross on the same plane, and mirror surfaces a, a' and b, b' each organize resonators for the lasers 1, 2. An optical absorption region (d) is inserted into the resonator shaped by the mirrors b, b'. When current density ia, ib, ic injected into the lasers 1, 2 and a crossed region (c) exceed a threshold, the laser 1 is oscillated, but the laser 2 contains the optical absorber (d), and is not oscillated owing to the negative gain region (c). When the optical absorber (d) is irradiated by beams and the laser 2 is oscillated, the region (c) is brought to the state of a negative gain, and the oscillation of the laser 1 is stopped.
